We at Sequoia believe there is only One living and true God. He is the God of the universe and has always existed. We worship Him on Sundays at 10 AM as a congregation. We also worship Him in our lives. As members of a local church body we have committed ourselves to Jesus Christ and covenant together to live as Christians should. We care about the world because He cares about the World. We are committed to people here and around the world. Click on Missions to see what we are doing to advance the Gospel at home and abroad. Click on Currently at Sequoia to see what is going on right now and in the next few weeks at Sequoia Heights. Click on Students or Children to see how Sequoia is meeting the needs and challenging these young people.
Happy New Year. It is already 2016. The earliest recorded festivities in honor of a new year’s arrival date back some 4,000 years to ancient Babylon. For the Babylonians, the first new moon following the vernal equinox—the day in late March with an equal amount of sunlight and darkness—heralded the start of a new year. They marked the occasion with a massive religious festival called Akitu (derived from the Sumerian word for barley, which was cut in the spring) that involved a different ritual on each of its 11 days. Today, we celebrate with new years eve parties and new year's resolutions. Pastor Mark said in his newsletter: "One goal I would always like you to set is to read the Bible on a consistent basis." A great idea!
