The pastor’s purpose is to help people grow and mature spiritually. Paul explains that God gave some to be pastors “for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:12-13). According to these verses the work of a pastor is focused on helping God’s people grow and mature spiritually. The pastor does this by living an exemplary Christian life, providing spiritual guidance and counsel, and instructing the body of believers through teaching and preaching.
