Why have a choir?

Sequoia music ministry is a vital part of Sequoia. The purpose is not to perform, but to equip people to use their gifts and talents to worship and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. (Philippians 4:4)

The adult choir sings a special once or twice a month (Ephesians 5:19-21)

Singing is a vital form of praise

God truly deserves our praise

The triune God who is our creator and redeemer, our savior and Lord, deserves all the praise we can give and a lot more. We at Sequoia praise him in our music by giving thanks (Psalm 7:17) . We sing as a congregation and we have adult and kid's choirs lead in praise to our God because He is beautiful and it is fitting. (Psalm 147:1)

Sequoia sings as a congregation and has adult and kid's choirs that lead in praise to our God because He is beautiful and it is fitting. The Bible has so much to say about music. It is mentioned in at least 44 of its 66 books. Musical terms such as music, sing, and musical instruments (many specifically identified) are mentioned hundreds of times. The entire book of Psalms is really a music book. The Gospel of Luke contains four complete hymns which were sung in the Early Church in worship. God is a great lover of music. Job 38:7 refers to the time “when the morning stars sang together, and all the angels shouted for joy”. Isaiah 55:12 speaks of the hills singing and trees clapping their hands. Jesus himself sang a hymn at the Last Supper. (Matthew 26:30).

Who? When?

The choir is a great place to get involved. The adult choir at Sequoia meets every Wednesday from 8:00PM to 9:00PM. The choir is open to all youth and adults who love to sing. The choir sings during worship services once or twice each month. They present a full musical in the spring, then take the summer off to regroup for another great year.

Sequoia has two Kid's choir. They are both open to any kids, or friends of kids that want to come and learn cool songs. They perform twice a year to a full house.
