The Lords prayers says "Give us this day our daily bread." I need to thank God I live in a country where there are more translations of the Word of God than I can count and they are available everywhere. The dollar store has a KJ version on their shelves! Then, I need to eat that bread every day while I can! It is really pressing on my heart that in a country that is rich with food, we are starving to death. Too much fast food--not enough healthy, nutritious eating. We don't take the time to sit and savor the glorious tastes of our food. We like to eat on the run--The Lord wants us to be still, listen and meditate on the Word. And that's what I can do today to live this out in my life...and I need to continue as tomorrow becomes today...

Hi Mark

Your choice of verse is very apt for each of us as we walk the Christian walk. When Jesus says "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that prceeds from the mouth of God." I my feeling is that He is reminding us that if we read and trust the Bible as our instruction manual to guide us through life we will not wander from the path of righteousness.

Jesus responded to each of Satan's three temptations by appealing to the unchanging Word of God. "It is written". If we want to successfully overcome temptation, we must know and understand what the Word says.

In Christ.

Annette, your comment leads us into the next words from Jesus. Verse 10. "Go away, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him." The word worship has been distorted to mean: the music portion of a church service; a church service; something that we go to. When we relegate worship to "church' then we miss out on a blessing. Romans 12:1-2 tells us that our spiritual worship is to present ourselves as a living sacrifice to the Lord daily, even min by min. In this way we will make sure that other things satan throws our way do not claim our worship and devotion. One way I try to handle this is through a time of devotion with my Lord in the morning. Then through the day I try to keep my thoughts on Him and the good things that Phil 4 tells me to focus on "...whatever is pure, whatever is right etc."
God bless you through this day.

"VERSE 7 Jesus has just been preached to by satan who uses the word of God and twists it to fit his plan. Jesus replys,”It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.” How are we tempted to test the Lord at times and what are some of the tests wer need to watch out for?"

I beleive God is More Concerned About our Eternal Soul Than our
Temporal Earthly Happiness.

The only Rewards any Christian will get in Eternity is those things that were Truly Godly & Conforming to the Image of JESUS. Our Temptations & Trials in life can happen as little mundane things we do during the day when interacting with people. We get tempted to be Snippy and Offended with people, to have a thought that doesn't line up with God's Word, etc. Our Temptations are constant.

Thank you Josh for your insightful comment. I agree with you but never looked at the "extra credit" we think we can store up to balance the scale of our disobedience. There is only one place that I remember where God tells us to test Him and that is in the area of our tithes and offerings (Mal 3). The other tests we give God shows our lack of understanding of His love balanced with His holy righteousness. "Do not test the Lord your God." We need to trust and follow as faithful servants and stewards of His will for our lives.

I notice sometimes as Christians we can fall into a pattern of "banking" goodness. Saying to ourselves "I read the Bible, I go to church, I tithe...etc. So perhaps this one small sin won't matter as much, or this one time I give in isn't so bad." We get this sense of "extra credit" so if we fail a test now and then, no big deal. Now I am not going to try and equate sins, murder to j-walking for example, but simply say sin is sin. We are tested each day, some we pass others we fail. The tests we fail, we fail, we don't get to let them slide due to "goodness credit" because we attended a service last Sunday. Recognizing we sin, repenting, and asking for Christ's forgiveness is also a test. Not being swayed by those who would say its no "big deal" let it slide. Instead praying for that forgiveness, forgiveness for a harsh word spoken or a theft committed, and doing all we can to turn away from sin and walk the path. Walking that path for me personally is a daily test, one honestly I fail in more than I succeed, but God willing I will change that.

Hi, I have found the Truth Project to be at the heart of God, based on his special revelation of his word, through his Son Jesus Christ, who is the very essense of (Truth) and his general revelation through nature. The Truth Project is more than what I had expected and thought provocative.

As a group facilatator the senses of the group up to this point as been very (Deep) some have suggested possiblely buying the DVD Based cirriculum for future reference and review.

My Prayer for all who will and have gone through the Truth Project will be a beacon of light as they seek to engage and influence the world where God has unquely place them. Do you really believe what you believe is the Truth, If the Truth is not the Truth it does not matter, if the Truth is the Truth it does matter...To God. Let's us join God in reaching our World.

As this group approaches the half-way point of the tour I would like to hear what you think about the Project. Is it great, exactly what you expected? Is more that you thought it would be? Does it make you think? (I hope so!) Is it too much for you? These are just some beginning comments to consider. Comment on your discussion group too.
For me I was excited to see the topics discussed by Dr. Tackett. The idea of a Christian world view is something I really believe all Christians should have and make every effort to live by it. (Of course, this doesn't mean I live perfectly by it!). As Christians we are called to come out of the world and be a witness to the world. Instead we have found ourselves immersed in the world and most of the world cannot tell any difference between us and them in our daily lives.
I can tell from the discussions that this is making some people a little uneasy - good as long as the end result is positive for Jesus. We should all feel free about sharing and growing from one another through our discussions.
Thanks for your participation in the study groups and anything you add to this blog.

I agree. It is in the Word of God that we will truly be fed. I was wondering. If I had a choice before me to eat a loaf of bread OR have a Bible as a last request which one should I choose? What is more important? I would have to say the Bible according to verse 4. I also think fasting would help us understand this verse better. I seldom miss a meal but when I fast staying in the word like at Easter the hunger is not strong (just a observation). Let's go to the next command by the Lord verse 7.

VERSE 7 Jesus has just been preached to by satan who uses the word of God and twists it to fit his plan. Jesus replys,"It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God." How are we tempted to test the Lord at times and what are some of the tests wer need to watch out for?

In our culture today there is a lot of focus on the bread - both the kind we eat and the kind we earn/spend. We aren't of the right type of people if we don't wear certain clothes, drive a particular brand of car, or hang out at certain establishments. With all of this focus on who we are in the eyes of our fellow man, there is not enough thought put into who we are in our Creator, our Savior. God gave us His Word, both in written and human form (as His only Son), to guide us to our eventual home in heaven. That is what should really be formost in our lives. What is in the Word of God and how do we apply it to our lives? That doesn't mean we won't have time to hang out in cool places (they may be different kinds of places) or have ample opportunity to shop for some great clothes and even buy a cool car. But, first put our thoughts and our focus on Jesus, the rest is icing on the cake.
